In our experiment, when scanning the JPEG results, only the latter suffered noticeably in quality. It was still decent, but the parrot started to pixelate. At higher levels, the parrot remained almost identical to the original.

For PNG files, the first version after the original kept 256 colors with a 7% saving in file size. It looked quite similar to the uploaded image, but you could already see that it was a bit different. More importantly, it has lost its shine.
