Laphroaig produces one of the richest flavors of all Scotch whiskies. Their main range is known for the 'patch mark', but most other expressions also have a distinct medicinal peat tone.Laphroaig Triple Woods recenzije

On the nose, Laphroaig's spicy peat smoke smells of burnt plastic and burnt wood, mixed with hints of vanilla, red fruit and cocoa. delicious. Creamy taste with subtle notes of spices, vanilla, smoke and raisins. The smoke lingers for a long time. Along with the water you can smell more seaweed, cocoa, cherry and smoke. The taste becomes softer and fruitier. When consumed, a salty edge appears, with hints of smoke and black coffee in the finish. The cream on the tongue remains. really good!

Typical Laphroaig smoke: reminiscent of sea medicine, almost fishy oysters. Behind it is sweet vanilla.
It is soft, full, round and fruity on the palate.
The finish adds plenty of oak bitterness while retaining the essential character of the previous impression.
A beautiful round Laphi bottle: full, sweet and smoky, the epitome of Islay. Less oaky, less sweet and less grassy than Ardbeg An O (similar cask composition) (Ardbeg is "green", while Laphroaig is "yellow").

The aroma of this whiskey is quite unique, but it is not reflected on the palate or the finish in terms of the balance of fruit, wood, smoke and honey, otherwise this could easily be a (almost) 90 point whisky. Overall, I really like this one, but I think I like the quarter barrel better because it has more depth, some of the "oomph" that the triple wood lacks.

Last week I replaced my finished Quarter Cask with this unfiltered and unstained triple wood.
It was triple aged before bottling at 48% strength. Bourbon, quarter and oloroso barrels.
Significant traces of all three can be found during tasting.
It starts with a bourbon side, followed by sweet vanilla and caramel. Nutty wood and floral notes follow. Orange, lemon and gummy salty peat, overlaid with sherry notes, complete this very well-rounded nose.
There is a sweetness in the smoke. sweeter but smaller
More tar/peat than other Laphroaigs I've tried.
Bourbon caramel and oloroso sherry are also available.
The hot part comes from bold pepper and licorice.
The medium/dry/spicy/peaty/sweet/sherry finish has a lot to offer and reveal.
He is said to be strange.
It certainly has more layers and components than QC, but it's strangely less balanced.
I took this to a tasting on Saturday and it happened to be my turn right after QC.
All 7 contributors gave the thumbs up to the €10 cheaper brother of this TW.
When that was done, the QC put it back on my shelf.
Still losing with 88 points.

FAQs
What is the difference between Laphroaig PX and triple wood? ›
Laphroaig PX Cask Triple Matured (1 Liter)
Much like the Triple Wood, the PX cask is also firstly aged in ex-bourbon barrels, and then transferred to quarter casks. Now, what sets this apart from the Triple Wood, is that it has been finished in casks which previously held PX (Pedro Ximénez) sherry.
Laphroaig Triple Wood is aged in three different types of cask, including American oak ex-Bourbon barrels. We then pick and choose the most suitable spirits from these barrels, ranging in age. These are blended and transferred into small 19th Century Quarter Casks for a second maturation.
Why is Laphroaig so good? ›In making Laphroaig, malted barley is dried over a peat fire. The smoke from this peat, found only on Islay, gives Laphroaig its particularly rich flavour.
Is Laphroaig a good brand? ›It's clear and strong, but without being overpowering to the senses. Hiding well in the background is a little bit of honey and sourdough bread, some good typical malted barley notes. As soon as you take a sip, you'll find the unmistakable flavor of a good Islay single malt scotch whisky — and one that's done properly.
What does PX whiskey stand for? ›The PX stands for Pedro Ximenez and describes naturally very sweet dessert wines. Here's more about PX Sherry and how it comes into play and affects a PX sherry cask finish bourbon...
Which is better peated or unpeated? ›A majority of connoisseurs like both peated and unpeated Whiskies. Another fraction prefers peated Whisky and tolerates unpeated Whisky. However, a non-negligible percentage of connoisseurs do not like peated Whisky.
What is better double or triple cask? ›Finish: All single, double, and triple cask whiskies can provide a lasting finish, but the triple-cask is more on the complex and warm side. The single-cask can be harsh (for some) due to its high ABV, while double-cask has some fruitiness.
What is difference between double cask and triple cask? ›A double cask whisky is a whisky that has first matured in one cask before being transferred into another cask to finish maturing. A triple cask whisky is one which has matured in three casks before bottling.
Is single cask better? ›Is single cask whisky better? Single cask whiskies are often more popular among whisky enthusiasts who prefer these because of their higher alcohol content, unique flavour and lack of colouring and filtration.
What is the best way to drink Laphroaig? ›The best way to drink Laphroaig 10-Year
The best way to enjoy Laphroaig 10-Year, or any sipping spirit for that matter, is in glassware that allows room for both your nose and mouth. These include a regular lowball (or rocks glass) or, more traditionally, a Glencairn glass, which is explicitly made for whiskey.
What does Laphroaig mean in English? ›
Pronounced Lah – Froyg, Laphroaig is a Gaelic name meaning 'the beautiful hollow by the broad bay'. The brand Laphroaig was named after the spot of land at the head of Loch Laphroaig.
How can you tell how old a Laphroaig is? ›The top of the label reads “Product of Scotland” and then underneath that reads 'Laphroaig Scotch Whisky, 14 Years Old, Distilled and Bottled by” and then the name 'D. Johnston & Co., Laphroaig Distillery' sits underneath this.
Is Laphroaig smoky or peaty? ›Laphroaig 10 is the definitive Islay peated single malt, distilled following traditions laid over the last 200 years by passionate master distillers. It's a staple for connoisseurs and a peaty rite of passage.
What does Laphroaig whisky pair with? ›Big peat flavour, followed by smoke, iodine and seaweed. The Laphroaig whisky matched the Blue Stilton brilliantly. In terms of the whisky and cheese pairing, the strong taste of the Stilton complements the smoke and peat of the Laphroaig.
What whiskey is John Wick drinking? ›What Bourbon does Jon Wick drink? Keanu Reeves' character definitely has expensive taste, from stylish cars to flashy weaponry, and of course his drink of choice. John Wick is seen drinking a bottle of Blanton's at the Continental hotel, following a good old fashioned gunfight.
What whiskey do Marines drink? ›Today, the term "Leatherneck" symbolizes the indomitable fighting spirit of the United States Marine Corps. Here's to the Leatherneck!
What whiskey was on the Titanic? ›With scant information about the style of the whisky they had delivered to the ship, they decided to honour the “plucky little countess” Lady Rothes, with a Glenrothes, Speyside whisky. (BBR own the Glenrothes whisky brand, though not the distillery itself).
Is Laphroaig heavily peated? ›Laphroaig might be the best known of the Islay peaty single malts, a whisky that one can find in almost any bar, even ones that don't specialize in brown spirits. In general, Laphroaig is a very peaty dram, but the distillery experiments with several different expressions.
Why is Laphroaig so peaty? ›Built in 1840, Laphroaig's peat kilns look out over the bay. It's here we burn the peat to impart the barley with our signature smoky flavour. Unlike most distilleries, we infuse the barley with peat smoke before we dry it. For 17 hours the smoke (or 'peat reek') rises through a perforated drying floor into the kiln.
How do you drink peated whiskey? ›Most often, peated Scotch is floated on top of a drink, where a small amount has maximum aromatic impact, with the Penicillin being the best-known example. Another common technique is to pair peated Scotch with another spirit, which helps moderate the smoky influence without burying it altogether.
Is Macallan fine oak the same as triple cask? ›
The Macallan Fine Oak is triple cask matured in a unique combination of exceptional sherry seasoned European and American oak casks and ex-bourbon American oak casks.
What is a triple scotch? ›Triple-distilled whisky must be distilled three times, usually in copper pot stills. It's a more expensive process than double-distillation or continuous distillation. The same regulations on whisky-making apply, although they vary from country to country. Scotch, Irish whiskey, and bourbon can all be triple-distilled.
Is it worth buying a cask of whisky? ›Due to interactions with the cask and atmosphere, single malt whisky is seen to increase in quality as it matures, adding layers of flavour and complexity to the spirit and increasing the smoothness. You cannot substitute for time in the whisky industry, and so an older cask will always be valuable.
How good is Macallan whisky? ›When it comes to premium quality whisky, Macallan are virtually unrivalled. Founded in 1824, by farmer and schoolteacher, Alexander Reid, Macallan was one of the first distilleries in Speyside to acquire a license.
What is Triple cask Edition? ›Johnnie Walker Triple Cask Edition is a sweeter & spicier whiskey from the makers of Johnnie Walker Black Label. This limited edition is crafted from an exceptional selection of malts, with three Speyside malts (Blair Athol, Cardhu and Strathmill) at its heart.
Is Macallan 12 a triple cask? ›The Macallan Triple Cask Matured 12 Years Old forms part of our Triple Cask Matured range; a series of single malt whiskies crafted in a triple cask combination of European and American sherry seasoned oak casks and American ex-bourbon oak casks.
How long can whisky stay in a cask? ›A bar cabinet or a package protect the Whisky from light. That way it's possible to store Whisky for more than ten years. However, since tiny amounts of liquid evaporate through the cork, the filling level will decrease over time.
Why is single cask whisky so expensive? ›Linked with quality is the rarity factor. Not every cask of whisky is good enough to be released as a single cask expression. Indeed, most casks of whisky are not good enough - it's only a small proportion that will make the grade. Rarity influences cask price, which in turn affects the end cost of the bottles.
Why is single barrel whiskey more expensive? ›Single barrel is more expensive than small batch or standard bourbons because it costs more for distillers to create. When you use a single barrel, you aren't able to blend hundreds or thousands of barrels together to cancel out possible imperfections (as with standard bottles).
What's the difference between double and triple cask? ›A double cask whisky is a whisky that has first matured in one cask before being transferred into another cask to finish maturing. A triple cask whisky is one which has matured in three casks before bottling.
What is the difference between single double and triple cask? ›
Single cask simply means that the whisky has spent its whole life in one cask, whereas the difference between double and triple cask whisky (and beyond) is that the whisky spends its life in a variety of different casks, which can include casks that have been used to age different spirits previously.
What is the difference between peaty and smoky Scotch? ›In short, smokiness is more carbon-based, whereas peatiness is more organic. PALATE: Smokiness on the palate typically has an ashy or charcoal flavour.
Which is more expensive double cask or triple cask? ›Single-cask and triple-cask whiskies can be more expensive than double-cask spirits.
Why is cask strength more expensive? ›Alcohol tax is a key contributor to the cost of cask strength single cask whiskies. This is particularly true up to the £100 mark, where the combination of VAT and Alcohol Duty will be a sizeable percentage of the total sum.
Is single malt or double cask better? ›Some people think that single malt is superior to a double malt because they believe that each batch of single malt has been distilled separately. Others prefer double malts because they think that blending creates a better whiskey. There is no right answer; it all comes down to personal preference.
What makes triple-distilled whiskey different from Scottish whiskey? ›Howells and Caldwell explain that the differences run a bit deeper. "Irish whisky is generally distilled three times and can be made from any combination of cereal grain whereas Scottish whisky is made from 100 percent malted barley and distilled twice in copper pot stills," Howells says.
What is a triple Scotch? ›Triple-distilled whisky must be distilled three times, usually in copper pot stills. It's a more expensive process than double-distillation or continuous distillation.
